Amber, Co-editor

l-r: Visitors Robert Hofmann & me (Willie) and Cassandra Novis playing with Amber on a mid-January weekend.

John Nelson of Minneapolis caught and released this 37" northern pike on Sand Lake recently.

Two months later, Mike Spencer, another friend of Steve's, caught/released this thick one. Evidently it's the winter for huge northerns. Mmmm...next summer when Amber and I chase sticks and frisbees in Sand Lake, We'll be watching our tails a little more carefully.

Speaking of big stuff, be sure to get a look at the two miles of old-growth white pines along Co. Rd. 2 on your way up to Snowshoe Country. They began life in the late 1600s.

Plenty of rental cabins are open for the winter, and skiing and snowshoeing are excellent with deep snow on all of the trails.

Ron has 35 acres for sale on the south edge of the camp. Mostly wooded, tiny creek, two ponds, utilities, & bordered by national forest land. For more info, get in touch with him.

Let me know if Ron or I can answer any questions.

Thoughts from two thoughtful goldens for the season: Don't overeat—mostly bite off more than you can chew, give the choice leftovers to your best friend (your dog), and always carry treats for any new dogs you may encounter. If you're a dog, be a good dog; if you're a person, be good to your dog. And if you need another dog, go to a rescue facility. Along with municipal and county agencies, there are many worthy, species-specific organizations throughout the country.
